Pisac is a small town nestled high in the Andes at 2,800 meters above sea level. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, it’s the perfect place to connect with nature. There’s always a new trail to hike, a meditation or yoga workshop to join, and a great selection of cafés and hangouts to enjoy.
Here’s our ideal half-day itinerary for visiting Pisac in the Sacred Valley:
🏞️ 1. Lace Up Your Hiking Boots and Head to the Pisac Archaeological Site
Pisac’s archaeological site is one of the town’s main attractions, and one of our favorite Inca ruins in the Sacred Valley. Spanning over 7 km, it takes 3–4 hours to truly explore the temples, terraces, and ancient cemeteries. Don’t rush through it in an hour like many tour buses do.
Fun fact: The Incas preserved the most fertile land for agriculture, avoiding construction on prime soil, how times have changed!
Tip: Take a taxi up to the ruins and hike down to the town for stunning views and photo ops of the Urubamba River and valley.
☕ 2. Grab a Bite at One of Pisac’s Cafés
After all that hiking, you’ll be hungry. For a quick traditional breakfast, head to Horno Colonial de Pumachayoc and ask Ernestina for one of her fresh empanadas.
For a cozy brunch, we love Cuchara de Palo on Pisac’s Plaza de Armas. If you’re craving something heartier, Mullu offers a delicious Asian-Peruvian fusion menu with great salads and vegetarian options.
For dessert, Ulrike’s Café serves a world-famous carrot cake. And just outside town, Doña Clorinda offers traditional Andean home cooking in a peaceful garden setting.
🧺 3. Shop Therapy at the Pisac Market
With your energy restored, head to Pisac’s main square, the best place to pick up souvenirs. Pisac is known for its silver jewelry, colorful Andean textiles, and alpaca blankets, scarves, and more.
Sunday is the best day to visit, when Quechua communities descend from the highlands to trade goods in traditional dress.
Our favorite shops:
- Toro Wasi: Vibrant ceramics by local artist Gustavo
- Puskana Wasi: One of the best collections of traditional blankets and weavings in town
🌸 4. Unwind at the Botanical Garden
After the market buzz, escape to one of Pisac’s hidden gems: the Felipe Marín Botanical Garden.
Tucked inside a colonial courtyard on a cobblestone street, this small garden is a peaceful oasis. Bring a book and a cool drink, and enjoy the flowers, hummingbirds, dragonflies, and butterflies. You’ll likely have the place to yourself, perfect for meditation or deep relaxation in the heart of Pisac.
