DAY 1: Rainbow Mountain Tours Perú
Rainbow Mountain Tour
At 4:00 to 4:30 am, our staff will pick you up at your hotel to board the tourist bus to the town of Cusipata, the trip will take approximately 2 hours.
After arriving in Cusipata we will head to the restaurant where we can enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Then after a rest we continue our journey towards the Vinicunca mountain range where we will begin our walk of approximately one hour and thirty minutes to reach the highest peak of the Rainbow Mountain 5,000 meters above sea level.
Once at the Rainbow Mountain we will have a panoramic view of the entire landscape surrounding the Rainbow Mountain, flora, fauna, peaks, mountains, and snow-capped mountains; we will also be able to observe the impressive Ausangate snow-capped mountain.
After resting for about 30 minutes at the top of Rainbow Mountain, we will ascend again to the starting point where we will board our bus back to Cusipata and enjoy a delicious lunch that will revitalize us.
Finally, after an adventure we boarded our bus back to the city of Cusco, leaving in our memories the best that nature offers us.

Vinicunca 7-Color Mountain
the wonderful Rainbow Mountain that attracts thousands of tourists to Peru. It is located approximately 138 km from Cusco in the Vilcanota mountain range in the Pitumarca district.
Vinicunca or Winikunca
It is known in both ways as ” Vinicunca Mountain of Colors ” or “Winikunca Mountain of 7 Colors”, the original name comes from two Quechua words “Wini rumi” Black stone “Kunka” neck; Black stone due to the black stones that abound in the area, and Neck for the narrow part of the hill that resembles a neck.
The study by the Office of Cultural Landscape and Muñoz details how each strip is composed according to its color:
- Pink or fuchsia: Combination of red clay, mudstone and sand.
- Whitish: sandstone (quartz sand) and limestone.
- Purple or lavender: marl (a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate) and silicates.
- Red: argillites and clays.
- Green: clays rich in ferromagnesian (a mixture of iron and magnesium) and copper oxide.
- Yellowish brown, mustard or golden: limonites, calcareous sandstones rich in sulfide minerals (combined with sulfur)
