Get tickets to Machu Picchu 2025: What You Need to Know
The Peruvian Ministry of Culture has announced that, starting December 19, 2024, sales and reservations of tickets to visit the majestic Inca City of Machu Picchu in 2025 will begin. The official platform for making purchases will be tuboleto.cultura.pe, where travel agencies, tour operators and visitors themselves will be able to purchase their tickets.
Sales schedule
The first reservations will be available for visits between January 1 and 5, 2025. Payment hours for the first day will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:58 p.m. After this first day, the payment procedure will be adjusted to the schedules and steps established on the platform.
Below are the key dates for ticket purchases:
- January 3, 2025 : On sale for visits between January 6 and 31.
- January 13, 2025 : Reservations available for February 2025.
- January 14, 2025 : Sale by March 2025.
- January 15, 2025 : Reservations for April 2025.
- January 16, 2025 : Tickets on sale for May 2025.
- January 17, 2025 : Reservations for June 2025.
- January 20, 2025 : Tickets on sale for July 2025.
- January 21, 2025 : Reservations for the months of August to December 2025.
This schedule is part of Ministerial Resolution No. 043-2024-MC , which establishes the rates and procedures for entry to pre-Hispanic assets, museums and institutions of the Ministry of Culture during 2025.
Access limits for 2025
It is important to note that the maximum capacity established for Machu Picchu not only responds to the need to protect this invaluable archaeological site, but also to the intention of guaranteeing a safer and more pleasant experience for visitors. The number of people who can access each day is carefully regulated to avoid premature wear and tear of the structure and surroundings of the complex.
The preservation of the ruins, as well as the natural environment that surrounds them, requires proper and responsible management of the tourist flow, which is achieved by implementing a controlled capacity. This also contributes to reducing the environmental impact of visits, ensuring that future generations can enjoy Machu Picchu as we know it today.
The Ministry of Culture has identified certain periods of the year as those of greatest demand, which coincide with school and holiday vacations, where the daily capacity will be increased to 5,600 people. These periods are from January 1 to 5, from April 17 to 20, between June 19 and November 2, and from December 30 to 31.
During these days, a significant increase in the arrival of tourists, both national and international, is expected, which justifies greater capacity to meet demand without compromising the integrity of the site. However, it is important that visitors plan their trip in advance to guarantee their entry on these high-traffic dates.
On the other hand, during the low season, the number of visitors will be reduced to 4,500 per day. This does not mean that Machu Picchu is less attractive, but that during these periods the flow of tourists decreases, allowing for a quieter and in some cases, more private visit.
Regulating the number of visitors is an effective strategy to balance the flow of people with the conservation of the site, allowing all tourists to enjoy the magnificence of the place while minimizing the risk of damage to the structure and natural environment. Visitors who choose to travel during the low season will be able to enjoy a more relaxed and exclusive atmosphere, while contributing to the preservation of the world heritage site.
